India actually lost the initial conflict to Pakistan.  Even though they struck those terrorist bases and other locations, the damage done to them was not extensive from a financial perspective.  They can be easily relocated and rebuilt. 

On the other hand, India lost more than one jet, at least 2 jets maybe even 4.   PL15 missile clearly broke through the SPECTRA system of the Rafales and shot one or 2 down. 

Pakistan had the electronic signature of all the Indian jets including the audio signal of Indian pilots.  They had entire 3D map of the battlefield due to Chinese Baidu satellite system.  It could have been the AWACS from Pakistan's side that gave away the positions of the Indian jets. 

India lost lives and also more $$$ due to those jets being shot down.  Going forward, Pakistan is gonna kick India's ass pretty hard now because they got access to Chinese military technology and logistical support.

Air Marshal AK Bharti himself acknowledged the loss of assests in the press conf, and said we'd reveal the numbers after the ops is over. IMO, it is stupid that CDS didn't say we've acknowledged them in the official press conf and stood by AM's statement. Bhakts won't get it. It is not that India lost its jets, but that there is so much opaqueness around everything this government does that it becomes hard to trust it. This is a no data government which delays publishing data on purpose and has made a mockery of the RTI. It even refused to acknowledge Chinese incursions for the longest time. I have heard that when Indira Gandhi lost the elections, people had to tune into BBC to hear the real news. Both Doordarshan and AIR kept denying it as far as they could. We have seen almost a repeat of that in the general elections last year when Godi channels kept blasting 300 par till the last minute. The coverage of the India-Pakistan conflict also showed us the reality of Godified news. Of course, it matters whether and how many Rafales were shot down. It’s important to understand, the task and purpose. We have multi billon dollar jets to be used in wartime contingencies, and we did exactly that, and lost a couple of jets. I don’t necessarily think that has much of a bearing on the overall picture, considering the intensity of the situation over the 4 days.
Consider how:
1. Around the same time(Apr ‘25), the USN lost 2 F/A-18 super hornets in the Arabian sea (lost to malfunctioning arresting wire/ arresting hook), does that mean that the Houthi’s defeated the USN? 
 2. Homing in on the same point, during what has been called the most successful air campaign in history, on the opening day of January 17th/18th 1991, the USN lost one F/A-18 hornet and two A-6E intruders (with one intruder crew being KIA). The overall number of losses during the entire air campaign was around 75 aircraft, due both military and non military reasons. Does that mean the US lost to Iraq during Operation desert storm? 

I feel that these losses are being blown way out of proportion, by Pakistan, so as to have some base to justify their “Victory” on paper. You never hear them talk about any of the other days where they had lost a huge number of military assets, be it radars, hangars, airbases and yes, aircraft.
That includes a number of aircraft they lost on the ground, and in the air. Including the longest ranged Surface-to-Air kill recorded in history of warfare, ~310Km!
What honestly also surprises me is the number of aircraft Pakistan lost on the ground, which I feel is being underplayed for some reason. Depleting air assets on the ground is a pretty big W, never letting them get airborne to begin with. Anyway,
Pakistan has been notorious in confirming aircraft/equipment lost in combat, not since this month, but something they have been doing since 1965, so I’m not really surprised by their antics.
What is really important are two things:
1. All pilots came home safe. Replacing an aircraft is much much easier and cheaper than replacing a combat pilot, needless to say you can’t really put a price on human life as such
2. As the CDS said, we learned and adapted to what needed to be done, and hammered in that point in during 10th, When we continued using air launched munitions such as SCALP and Brahmos, DURING DAYTIME!

I hope, that we view these developments with the full light of context it needs, and to anyone from the other side still brainwashed-ly screaming 6-0, i think 11-0 is a much larger number ;)

I'm glad that our CDS acknowledged that we had suffered losses of jets. They are meant to fly and to be fair it was probably the first time Rafale saw contact in an actual theatre of war with an enemy who has an air force.

Also the statement of frustration from the AF chief a couple of days ago also indicates that the armed forces are sticking to their jobs which is to provide the best defence for India and protect their staff.

This looks to be a way to acknowledge that the game needs to be upped by us and so do the investments and timely deliveries.


And that hardware needs to be made top notch for us to win the next battle which knowing the enemy will happen sooner than later given the inclinations of their unofficial leadership.

PL15 is stealthy air to air missile. as per PAF they knew when the IAF took off due to there AWACS which they have 7-8 more than we have. we couldnt strike first on PAF due to our policy to attack on terror camps &amp; only to retaliate when Pakistan attacked first. 

as soon as we shot the terror camps they used PL15 on our jets &amp; probably took down few. we need to stand with our armed forces &amp; develop domestic capabilties to avoid such losses in future

It’s interesting that so many people blame the India’s doctrine than the aircraft. But when Russian jets are down, everyone is just laughing at their jets being so trash. The thing is no country perhaps other than the US can achieve air superiority over a near-peer adversary given how advanced the modern AA system is. The doctrine is only partially to blame here. Planes will be shot down whether it is Rafale, Su30 or F16.

That is what happens when you don’t employ SEAD and proceed head on against an enemy that is anticipating a backlash and has kept it’s air defences at active standby. Rafale is not to blame here, the doctrine is.

Controversial opinion, India's air doctrine by itself is not to be blamed here, they knowingly choose not to deploy higher level assets not to escalate and not to attack Pakistan or Pakistani units, but the terrorist elements on the ground, so they didn't deploy sead and electronic warfare, they told Pakistan we're not going after you, only terrorist bases so there's no need for any higher level tech &amp; EW.

India's moves were transparent by design, but Pakistan choose to escalate, India miscalculated anticipating Pakistan's intention to escalate by hitting a 'low hanging fruit' that doesn't deploy defensive measures and doesn't even target Pakistani forces.

* Meaning, in the future, it will be logical for India to assume escalation is unavoidable, therefore they need to be much more aggressive (0 or 100, no half way) and assume that Pakistan will try to eliminate Indian forces engaging in anti-terror operations.

Although suspending the IWT and the work of unknown gunmen will hurt Pak more than in a war (Pak loss relative to India's loss), the govt could not have survived if there was no military action. That action had to be more than Uri &amp; Balakot.

It is not difficult for Pak to guess possible targets that we might strike. Their air defences - which are formidable, would have focussed on defending them. Pak would have concluded that we would not be able to accept the probable losses when attacking these.

We succeeded in the mission of hitting all 9 targets, with heavy loss of life on their side and  
no pilot lost on ours. Pak also lost disproportionately more when they tried to retaliate.

Weapon systems enable you to meet your objective in a war. You expect to lose them in combat. When our defence expenditure for capital goods is 10 times that of Pak, we can afford to replace losses in a way Pak can't.

No plan ever survives contact with the enemy. How you react to a surprise the enemy throws at you, is a measure of how good you are and that is what CDS meant. On 10th May, we  
had even 25+ year old Jaguars flying on missions against a fully alert Pak air space, as part of an attack on 11 air bases, with no losses (not even claims by Pak).

As an Indian I see the losses to be of  low importance. Whatever their number may be.
Plus The initial 'missile' attack was 'non-escalatory'.
If we can hit the landing strip at their bases precisely, we can hit their planes too.
Bet the call was taken to not retaliate to Pak after the missile strikes to avoid further escalation after Bahawalpur and others were hit.

The objective was and is for Munir to get the point. We're ready to take the cost

Planes are replaceable, fighter pilots are harder to replace. They ALL came back safe and while India may have lost a jet or two, they convincingly whipped Pakistan’s ass. It wasnt close.
